Chocolate Cherry Cupcakes

People will be surprised when they bite in and find a cherry in the middle.  It's your choice if you give away the secret to how you got the cherry in there.


  • 1 package (18.25 oz) chocolate cake mix
  • 1 1/3 cup water
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 can (21 oz) cherry pie filling
  • 1 can (16 oz) vanilla frosting


  1. Combine cake mix, water, oil, and eggs.  Spoon batter by 1/4 cupfuls into paper lined muffin cups.
  2. Spoon one cherry from pie filling onto the center of each cupcake.
  3. Bake at 350°F for 20 minutes.  Cool completely.
  4. Frost cupcakes.  Top with one cherry.
