Beer Brats

Yield: 5 servings

Ingredients

  • 2 cans beer (12 oz. each) (preferably a lager)
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp mustard
  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • 5 bratwurst
  • Buns
  • Condiments (sauerkraut, mustard, ketchup, cooked onions)

Directions

  1. Place the beer, onion, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, and brown sugar in a saucepan.  Bring to a simmer over medium-high heat.
  2. When simmering, add the bratwurst.  Lower to medium-low heat, cover, and simmer for 10 minutes.
    • If needed, you can reduce to low heat and keep them there for a while.
  3. Remove the brats from the beer and cook on a grill (summertime) or skillet (wintertime) over medium-high heat until browned, about 5-10 minutes.
    • If using a grill, toast the buns while the brats are cooking.
  4. Serve the brats on a toasted bun with condiments.
