Fried Feta Bites

Yield: 16 pieces

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 1/3 cups panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 block solid feta cheese
  • 2 cups oil (canola works fine)
  • Honey

Directions

  1. In a bowl, combine the flour & black pepper.
  2. In another bowl, whisk the egg, salt, and water.
  3. Place the breadcrumbs in a third bowl.
  4. Cut the feta cheese into 16 square pieces.  Roll each in:
    • Flour
    • Egg
    • Breadcrumbs
    • Egg
    • Breadcrumbs
  5. Freeze the breaded feta cheese for 20 minutes to help get them firm.
  6. Heat your oil in a frying pan to 350°F.  (It doesn't have to be exact)
  7. Fry the feta in batches of 4-6.  Watch them closely and as they turn golden brown, remove from the pan and place on a plate lined with paper towels.
  8. When done frying, place the feta bites on a platter.  Drizzle with honey.
  9. Serve warm.
