Apple & Gingerbread Upside-down Cake

The aroma of this cake baking will win you over instantly.  The anticipation will leave you salivating.

Ingredients


  • Topping
    • 1/2 cup butter, melted
    • 2 large apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
    • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • Gingerbread
    • 1/2 cup butter
    • 1/2 cup molasses
    • 1/2 cup sugar
    • 1/3 cup brown sugar
    • 1 egg
    • 2 cups flour
    • 1 tsp baking soda
    • 1 tsp cinnamon
    • 1 tsp ginger
    • 1/2 tsp ground cloves
    • 1/2 tsp salt
    • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
    • 1/4 tsp allspice
    • 3/4 cup hot tea

Directions


  1. Pour the butter into a 9" x 9" baking pan.  Lay out the apples and then sprinkle with brown sugar.  Set aside.
  2. For the gingerbread, cream together the butter, molasses, sugar, brown sugar, and egg.  Add in all remaining ingredients and mix until completely smooth.  Pour over top of the apples.
  3. Bake at 350°F for 45 minutes, until a toothpick stuck in the center comes out clean.
  4. Cool for 5 minutes on a wire rack.  Invert onto the serving plate and serve warm.
